For the 2018-2019 season, FRYO is providing five performance groups plus other opportunities for student members. The Symphonia, an intermediate level orchestra and the Philharmonic, an advanced level orchestra, have full instrumentation. In addition, there are two ensembles for less experienced players: Wind Ensemble, a unique ensemble with woodwinds, brass and percussion, and the Concert Strings, a beginning string orchestra. We also offer FRYO Jazz, an ensemble with standard jazz instrumentation of saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and rhythm section (piano, guitar, bass,drum set), that performs big band music. Membership is through audition, with students having played their instruments for a minimum of one year.

In our desire to offer enriching musical experiences, Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra sponsors an annual Concerto Competition for our musicians. Students who choose to enter the competition will perform one movement of a concerto as an audition piece for a panel of judges. The winner of the competition will have an opportunity to perform their selection with the Philharmonic Orchestra. Please contact us for more information.
